Coach's Comments December, 2006
I would like to take this opportunity
to congratulate everyone that swam in
the U S Open, CW and the LCSC meets. I
would also like to congratulate all our
HS girls on their successes at the
conference championships and HS state
meet. These are the meets that we close
out the fall session with, we rested and
worked on developing speed and almost
everyone was successful, going personal
bests in many of their events and making
qualifying times for the championship
meets in the spring.
In August many of you wrote out your
goals, committed to making no less than
80% of workouts, watched what you ate
and generally stayed healthy and you
were successful in bettering almost all
of your times, meeting or beating our
goal times. If you didnt do some of
these things you may not have been as
successful as you wanted. With the start
of the winter session it is a chance to
do a little bit better in areas that
were weak last session. You need to fill
in the goal sheet we use, (it will be
available on the web site), being
realistic in setting times that are
worthwhile, (B, Q1, Q2, sectional,
national), and being honest in the time
you will commit to working out. You need
to realize that you need to carve time
out of your day for workout, not
shoehorn it in between some other
activities. Being on time for, and
staying, for the entire workout is so
important in being successful. It
doesnt take talent to hustle and be on
time.
I would like to say a few words about
swim meets. You need to be sure that you
do not plan other activities on meet
days, and plan on swimming all days at
meets and swim in all the events you are
allowed to swim in.
We are making it a policy to get
everyone swimming at a meet on deck and
ready to go 5 minutes before the warm-up
starts. We have a much better chance of
securing a lane for warm-up and can get
everyone a good warm-up if everyone
swimming is ready to go when the warm-up
starts. If people come in late and the
lanes are filling up then we get spread
out and can not do any kind of organized
warm-up.
It is also very important that parents
write their athletes events numbers or their
hand before coming into the meet. This way
the athlete will know what events should be
checked in and it makes it easier to find
heats and lanes when the heat sheets are
posted.
It is important to bring proper clothing
to a swim meet. You need to have a warm
sweatshirt and pants, BAC Apparel is best,
and shoes or sandals on because it will be
cold at all the meets we go to in the
winter.
For the BAC meet there is no charge for
relays and we will try to get everyone
swimming on a relay, so if there is a day
you cannot do a relay I need to know.
EMU is not available for training this
holiday season so we will be working out at
the LRC, 9-11 AM and 4-6 PM, more will be
posted on the web site. Im looking forward
to this holiday training session; it will be
a great opportunity for those of you who
take advantage, to get some tremendous
conditioning. This can make or break your
chances for great success at the
championship meets in March.
Decide now what your goals for March are
and make the commitment to put in the time
necessary to achieve those goals and dreams.
